Educators are invited to Join CWF in an amazing Arctic learning experience by enrolling in the 2011 summer course July 24-31. Explore the beauty of the tundra with scientists, education professionals and conservation experts. Use new technologies to record and share your journey, which begins in Iqaluit, the capital city of Nunavut, on beautiful Baffin Island.

Iqaluit is the base for the Nunavut Arctic College, which includes the Nunavut Research Institute. The Sylvia Grinnell Territorial Park Reserve is a mere kilometer away, and features scenic waterfalls, tidal flats and traditional fishing sites.

This is a unique opportunity to learn about at the local ecology guided by local experts. Gain insight into the real and immediate impacts of climate change, and learn how that process has affected both wildlife and the way of life of people who are so strongly connected to and dependent on their environment.  Inuit traditional knowledge will be an important part of this learning experience. Ideally, southern participants will be paired with Inuit educators, so they can learn from and teach each other and form a bond that will facilitate their continued interaction after the summer course.

The tentative agenda includes a short flight to and from Iqaluit to Pangnirtung, a fishing village known as the Switzerland of the Arctic. Here you will spend a couple days exploring the coastal plain just 40 kilometers south of the Arctic Circle, spectacularly situated between the Cumberland Peninsula and the Pangnirtung Fjord.

The 2011 Summer Institute is open to formal and non-formal educators for a non-credit registration fee of $1,500. This includes conservation field trips and shared, dormitory-style accommodation. While participants are required to pay for and book their own transportation to and from Iqaluit at the beginning and end of the course CWF has negotiated special fares from First Air, which services Iqaluit and is a member of the Star Alliance network.

Led by Dr. Grant Gardner of the CWF Learning Institute, this is an experience you will not want to miss. Spaces are limited so sign up now for more information. Full registration packages will be available soon.
